Riverwomen Fall to Rangers in GLVC Matchup

Kenosha, Wis. – The UMSL volleyball team was beaten 3-1 by Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday night. The Riverwomen fell 30-25, 23-30, 30-27, 30-28.

After losing the first game, UMSL bounced back strong and won the second game to even it up at one game apiece. Wisconsin-Parkside came back strong, taking the next two games in close contests, winning the third and fourth games by a combined five points. The match was even statistically, as UMSL had just one less kill (62) than the Rangers (63), and Wisconsin-Parkside even had more errors than UMSL, 30-26. Both teams had nine service errors and Wisconsin-Parkside had two more service aces and two more team blocks that the Riverwomen.

Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) led UMSL with a match high 23 kills and added three blocks as well. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 54 assists for the Riverwomen and Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNichols) had seven total blocks on the night.

With the loss, UMSL falls to 8-13 on the season and 5-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Riverwomen will close out the regular season on Saturday when the team travels to play at Lewis University at 1 pm before traveling to play in the GLVC Tournament next weekend.
