Volleyball Gives Silvester 400th Win at UMSL UMSL Goes 1-1 on the Weekend; Silvester Reaches Milestone UMSL head volleyball coach Denise Silvester reached a career milestone with the 3-1 win at Bellarmine on Friday night. The Riverwomen beat the Knights 19-30, 30-19, 30-27, 30-21, giving Coach Silvester her 400th career win as an UMSL head coach in her 18th season at the school. The team could not carry that momentum into Saturday's match however, as the Riverwomen fell 3-0 at Northern Kentucky to wrap up the weekend. The Riverwomen dropped the first game 30-19 to get in a quick hole, but bounced back strong in the second game, winning by a 30-19 score and making the match even at one game each. UMSL then squeaked out a tight game three, winning 30-27 and then sealed the deal by winning the fourth game 30-21. Nikki Pagels (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) and Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) led UMSL with 11 kills each, and Freeman added a team high 18 digs. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and Stacey Pearl (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) each had 19 assists for UMSL in the win. In Saturday's match, UMSL fell 3-0 at Northern Kentucky. The Riverwomen fell behind quickly after a 30-16 loss in game one, then lost the next two games 30-23 and 30-22. Kathryn Freeman led UMSL with 10 kills on the day and Ashley Richmond had 15 assists. UMSL
is now 5-9 on the season and 2-4 in the GLVC. After the weekend matches,
Coach Silvester's record at UMSL is now 400-249 in her 18 years at UMSL,
and in her 21st season as a college head coach as an overall career
record of 494-302-2. UMSL will be in action again next weekend when
they host Quincy on Friday, October 10 at 7 pm
