UMSL Volleyball Falls to Wisconsin-Parkside

Riverwomen Lose Close Match 3-1

ST. LOUIS, MO – The University of Missouri-St. Louis Riverwomen ended their home season with a close 3-1 loss to visiting Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers beat UMSL by scores of 29-31, 30-25, 32-30, 30-24.

The first game was even throughout, with 15 total ties in the game. UWP used a 6-1 run early to take a 13-7 lead. UMSL fought back, eventually tieing the score at 20-20. The teams then exchanged points until the last tie at 29-29. From there, UMSL got a kill from Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) and a service ace from Janae Paas (Longmont, Colo./Niwot). In the second game, UMSL got a small lead with UWP staying close behind until the Rangers went on a 6-1 run to take a 27-24 lead late in the game and hold on for a 30-25 win.

The third game was another tight battle and the Rangers took a quick 14-8 lead. The Riverwomen then chipped away at the lead, eventually tieing the game at 20-20 and then took a 21-20 lead. Neither team led by mor than two points the rest of the game, as it was tied seven more times in the game, the last coming at 30-30. With the game knotted at 30-30, Wisconsin-Parkside then got two straight points for the 32-30 win. UWP again jumped out to a quick lead in the fourth game, leading 13-7 in the early going. UMSL charged back and tied the game at 15-15 before the Rangers used an 8-2 run to take control of the game and win 30-24 to take the match three games to one.

UMSL was had five players with double-digit kills, led by Nikki Pagels (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) with 13 kills and Melissa Frost with 12 kills. Frost also added six total blocks on the day and Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) had five blocks. Stacy Pearl (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) had 48 assists as well. Wisconsin-Parkside was led by Katie Raasch with 28 kills on the day and Leah Dugan added 60 assists.

UMSL is now an even 12-12 on the season overall and 3-8 in the GLVC. The Riverwomen have three matches left in the regular season with road contests at SIU Edwardsville, Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana.
