UMSL Falls to Southern Indiana

Screaming Eagles Beat Riverwomen 3-1

ST. LOUIS, MO – The UMSL volleyball team suffered their third straight loss, and fourth in the last five matches, with a 3-1 loss to visiting Southern Indiana on Friday night. The Screaming Eagles won the match by scores of 28-30, 30-24, 30-15, 30-15.

The Riverwomen took the first game after surrendering a five-point lead midway through the game. USI fought back to tie it at 28-28 before UMSL got two straight service aces from Kira Fraser (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) for the win in the first game. In the second game, UMSL kept it close before Southern Indiana scored nine straight points to take a 26-20 lead and then held on for the 30-24 win. The Screaming Eagles dominated the third and fourth games, winning by a score of 30-15 in each game to close out the win.

UMSL was led by Nikki Pagels (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) with 10 kills and three blocks in the game. Stacey Pearl (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) led the team with 23 assists. Southern Indiana was led by Kristina Kavanaugh with 16 kills.

UMSL is now 11-10 on the season and falls to 2-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Southern Indiana improves to 17-6 and 6-2. The Riverwomen will be at home again on Saturday with a home match against Kentucky Wesleyan starting at 1 pm.
