| Lewis Defeats UMSL Volleyball 3-0 Riverwomen to Close out Home Schedule on Saturday ST. LOUIS, MO – The UMSL volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Lewis University on Friday evening, losing by scores of 30-18, 30-17, 30-16. Lewis used a 10-2 run in the middle of the first game to take command early in the match, holding on for a 30-18 win in that first game. In the second game, the Flyers again jumped out to a quick lead, scoring nine of the first 11 points in the game. Lewis extended their lead to as many as 15 points and went on to win 30-17. Lewis duplicated their second game start in the third game, leading 9-1 in the early going. UMSL fought back and closed the gap to just five points at 12-7 before the Flyers took off on a 13-3 run and cruised to a 30-16 win to take the match. The Riverwomen were led by Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) with eight kills and Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) with seven kills on the night. Lewis was led by Katie Gilman with 13 kills and two solo blocks. UMSL
drops to 12-11 on the season and 3-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference
while Lewis improves to 23-2 overall and 11-2 in the GLVC. UMSL will
close out its home schedule against Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon
at 1 pm, before playing their last three regular season matches on the
road.
