| UMSL Snaps Losing Skid with 3-0 Win Riverwomen Beat Bellarmine 3-0 ST. LOUIS, MO – The UMSL volleyball team stopped their losing skid with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-22, 30-22) win over Bellarmine University. The Riverwomen had dropped their last three matches and five of their last six before the big win Saturday afternoon. UMSL jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in game one, and then leading 14-8 reeled off seven straight points for a 21-8 lead while cruising to a 30-17 win. In the second game, the Riverwomen again got a quick lead, scoring the first four points of the game and taking a 7-1 lead. UMSL increased the lead to 11 points at 15-4 before Bellarmine made a late charge. The Knights closed it to just four points at 23-19, but UMSL scored the last four points of the game to win 30-22. In the third game, both teams went back and forth and were tied for the seventh and final time at 18-18. Trailing 18-17, UMSL scored four straight points and closed the game with a 13-5 run for the 30-22 win. Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) and Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) each had 11 kills for UMSL, Frost recording five of those in the first game alone and Freeman recording nine in the first two games. Kira Fraser (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) had eight kills on the day, including five in the pivotal third game. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 30 assists and Frost added four total blocks. The
Riverwomen are now 10-6 on the season and 1-2 in the GLVC. UMSL will
be on the road next weekend when they play at Quincy on Saturday, October
5 at 3 pm.
