UMSL Beats Panthers on the Road

Riverwomen Notch 3-1 Win; Keep Tournament Hopes Alive

Owensboro, Ky. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team kept their tournament hopes alive with a 3-0 win at Kentucky Wesleyan. The Riverwomen, needed to win their final two matches of the year to qualify for the tournament, took the first step in that goal and beat the Panthers 30-20, 30-23, 30-19.

UMSL got big games from three hitters, as Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) and Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) each had 16 kills on the night and Nikki Pagels (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) had 15 kills. As a team, the Riverwomen recorded 57 total kills while limiting Kentucky Wesleyan to just 22 kills in the match. Pagels added five total blocks in the match as well and Stacey Pearl (Irvine, Calif./?) had 50 assists.

With the win, UMSL improves to an even 13-13 on the season and 4-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The win also keeps alive the UMSL hopes of making the GLVC Tournament. The Riverwomen will play at Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon, and need to win that match and have Saint Joseph's lose to Bellarmine for UMSL to qualify for the GLVC Tournament.
