| Riverwomen Fall To William Woods In Doubleheader UMSL plays with eight players due to injury St. Louis, Mo. – The UMSL softball team fell to William Woods University 7-2 and 8-1 in a doubleheader played on Saturday, April 5 in Fulton, Mo. UMSL's Ashley Compton suffered an injury late in the game, which caused the Riverwomen to play with only eight players for the remainder of the first game and all of the second game of the doubleheader. William Woods struck in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs and holding UMSL to zero runs and hits in the first. The second inning was similar to the first, with WWU holding UMSL and scoring three runs on three hits. WWU added to their lead in the third, sending two players home to take a 6-0 lead. UMSL scored their only runs of the game in the top of fifth on RBI double by Ashley Compton (Bloomington, Ill./Illinois Central). UMSL fell to William Woods 7-2 in the first game. In the second game, with only eight UMSL players on the field, the Riverwomen took the early lead in the top of the second on a RBI single by Jamie Beucke (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt South), which sent UMSL's Danielle Moore (Dupo, Ill./Dupo HS) across home plate. William Woods then took the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. WWU then held UMSL to zero hits in the third, fourth and fifth inning, while scoring sixth more runs to increase their lead by seven points. Due to the Riverwomen injury, UMSL was forced to take an out for Compton each time she stepped up to the plate and were not able to chip away at the score. The Riverwomen foundered to William Woods University 8-1 in the second game. UMSL is now 9-15-1 on the season and remain 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Riverwomen will be in action Tuesday, April 8 at 4 pm when they host SIU Edwardsville.
