UMSL Receives End of the Year Rankings

Schaaf and Pobst Doubles Team Ranked Regionally

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s tennis team received some regional rankings for the end of the 2004-05 season. As a team, the Rivermen were ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region in the final poll of the year. UMSL finished the year with a record of 9-8 on the season and placed fourth in the GLVC regular season standings with a 5-3 record in conference matches. The Rivermen also placed fourth at the season ending GLVC tournament.

In addition to the team ranking, the UMSL doubles team of Stephen Pobst (Sikeston, Mo./Sikeston) and Mike Schaaf (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell) were ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region in the end of the year poll. The duo finished the year with a 9-6 doubles record on the season, including a 5-1 record in conference matches. They played the entire season at the number one doubles spot where they went 8-5, and went 1-1 in tournament matches in the fall season. Pobst was 10-8 in singles matches on the year and Schaaf, who was an All-GLVC selection for the second time in his career, finished at 8-9 in singles matches.
