UMSL Tennis Aces Maryville

Rivermen Win 9-0 in Home Opener

St. Louis, Mo. – The UMSL men’s tennis team cruised to an easy 9-0 win over Maryville on Saturday afternoon in the first home match for the Rivermen this season.

UMSL swept all three doubles matches to begin the day, winning 8-0 at both two and three doubles, and winning one doubles 8-1. In the singles matches, the Rivermen dominated each match. UMSL got three singles wins by 6-0, 6-0 scores from Francis Lam (Kettering, England) at three singles, Raj Saini (Victoria, British Columbia) at four singles and James Daugherty (White Settlement, Texas/Brewer) at six singles. Matt Vaulkhard (Victoria, British Columbia) won at one singles 6-1, 6-0, Mike Schaaf (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell) won 6-0, 6-2 at two singles and Stephen Pobst (Sikeston, Mo./Sikeston) won 6-0, 6-2 at five singles to complete the sweep for the Rivermen.

The Rivermen will be in action again on Monday afternoon when they travel to play at McKendree at 3:30 pm.
