UMSL Beats Lindenwood 8-1

Rivermen Win Close Doubles Matches in Victory

St. Louis, Mo. - The UMSL men’s tennis team defeated Lindenwood in a tuneup match before this weekend’s GLVC tournament. The Rivermen beat the Lions 8-1 in the match.

UMSL took all three doubles matches, despite a close contest in each one. Matt Vaulkhard and Mike Schaaf edged out a 9-7 win at one doubles as did Mario Gruden and Rajan Saini at two doubles. At the three doubles spot, Kyle Aulabaugh and Stephen Pobst had a tough match as well, pulling out an 8-5 win.

The Rivermen then took five of the six singles matches, with the easiest wins coming from Mario Gruden at four singles, winning 6-4, 6-1, and Martin Damm at five singles, winning his match 6-4, 6-2. Martin Kardos needed three sets to win at one singles and Matt Vaulkhard and Stephen Pobst each won in two sets at one and six singles respectively.

UMSL is now 11-5 on the season and will travel to play at UM Rolla on Tuesday, then host Washington University on Wednesday before traveling to the GLVC Tournament this weekend.
