UMSL Falls to DePauw 6-3

Rivermen Lose 6-3; Kardos Wins Twice

St. Louis, Mo. – The UMSL men’s tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to DePauw University on Friday afternoon, suffering their first loss of the spring season.

The Rivermen dropped two of the three doubles matches to get in a hole before the singles matches started. UMSL got a win from its top doubles team of Martin Kardos and Matt Vaulkhard, recording an 8-4 win at one doubles, but the team took losses at two and three doubles by identical 8-4 scores.

In singles matches, Martin Kardos remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win at two singles. At the four singles spot, Mike Schaaf dropped the first set 6-2, but fought back to win the second set 6-4 and then won in the tiebreaker 10-6. Unfortunately for the Rivermen, those were the only two singles matches UMSL could pull out, dropping the other four matches for a 6-3 loss.

UMSL is now 2-1 on the season and will play at Principia on Sunday, March 16.
