Simpson Scores First Career Goal in 1-0 Win

St. Louis, Mo. – University of Missouri-St. Louis junior Michael Simpson (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) scored his first career goal for the Rivermen in a 1-0 win over Southern Indiana.

Both teams were scoreless through most of the first half before Simpson scored his goal in the 37th minute with a header off a pass from Andy Schaul (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic). UMSL took that 1-0 lead into halftime and made it stand up in the second half. Southern Indiana made it tough for the UMSL defense, recording eight shots in the second half, but goalkeeper Zach Hoette (Florissant, Mo./Rosary) made six saves on the night to recorded his conference leading seventh shutout of the season.

UMSL improves to 7-4-2 on the season and is 4-4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rivermen will be at home again on Sunday when they host Kentucky Wesleyan at 12 pm.
