Obernuefemann Scores Game-Winning Goal for UMSL

The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team handed Truman State their first loss of the year, as the Rivermen beat the Bulldogs 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The first half was scoreless, as neither team found the net. Truman State recorded nine shots in the first half to UMSL’s three in the opening half. The Rivermen had just two shots in the second half, but made the most of their opportunities. Anthony Obernuefemann (Mt. Olive, Ill./Mt. Olive) scored the only goal of the game, hitting a shot that was deflected back to him that he returned past the keeper into the net for the 1-0 UMSL win. UMSL goalkeeper Zach Hoette (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) registered four saves on the day to get the shutout.

The Rivermen improve to 4-1 on the season and will be on the road next weekend when they play at Bellarmine and at Northern Kentucky.
