Rivermen Fall 2-1 in Double Overtime

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri St. Louis men’s soccer team lost an overtime heartbreaker to 14th-ranked Rockhurst (6-2-1, 4-1-1 GLVC) on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 in double overtime. UMSL (3-2-2, 3-2-1 GLVC) played through heavy rains and saw an early lead disappear in the closing seconds.

UMSL got the early lead scoring in the 14th minute as Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) shot a deflection past the keeper for a 1-0 lead. The Rivermen held that lead for nearly the rest of the game, but saw Rockhurst tie the game on a goal with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime. In the second overtime period, the Hawks scored with 5:24 remaining to come away with the 2-1 victory. UMSL goalkeeper Zach Hoette (Florissant, Mo./Rosary) did his best to keep UMSL in the game, recording ten saves, six in second half, in the loss.

UMSL is now 3-2-2- on the season and 3-2-1 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will be on the road next weekend to play at Lewis and at Wisconsin-Parkside.
