Freshman Duo Shoots UMSL Past Kentucky Wesleyan Smith, Huber Each Score in 3-0 Victory Owensboro, Ky. – For the second time this season, the UMSL men’s soccer team notched a conference win thanks to the contributions of a pair of freshman. On Friday, UMSL (2-1-1, 2-1-0 GLVC) got a goal and an assist from Jared Smith (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) and Colin Huber (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summitt) to carry UMSL to a 3-0 win at Kentucky Wesleyan (0-6, 0-3 GLVC). The first goal for UMSL came in the 30th minute as Jared Smith scored his second goal of the year on an assist from Colin Huber, giving the Rivermen a 1-0 lead at halftime. Midway through the second half, Smith would return the favor as he assisted on a goal by Huber, his first career goal at UMSL, and giving the team a 2-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Missouri-St. Louis would add an extra goal, this one coming off the foot of Jeff Facchin (Hazelwood, Mo./DeSmet) for the 3-0 victory. UMSL goalkeepers Zach Hoette (Florissant, Mo./Rosary) and Adam Balbi (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt South) combined for the shutout, with Hoette recording three saves in the game. UMSL
is now 2-1-1 on the season and improves to 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference. The Rivermen will be on the road again on Sunday when they
play at Southern Indiana.
