Rivermen Clip Eagles' Talons

UMSL Soar Past Southern Indioana, 3-1

St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team took the pitch for their last home game of the season against conference opponent University of Southern Indiana. David Walters (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour) gave the Rivermen a 1-0 lead at the half and Matt Anderson (St. Louis, Mo./Northwest) put an assurance goal on the board ten minutes into the second half. Adam Bimslager (Florissant, Mo./St. Thomas Aquinas) also tallied a goal to bring the Rivermen’s lead to 3-0.

In the waning moments of the first half, Walters gave the Rivermen a 1-0 lead heading into half time. Walters scored the goal off a corner kick from Brett Kaatmann (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour).

Ten minutes into the second half, Anderson secured the Rivermen’s victory when he dribbled past the Screaming Eagles’ defense to bury the ball in the net. The Rivermen tallied another goal by Bimslager after Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) blasted a shot that was blocked by the Southern Indiana goalie, allowing Bimslager a chance from inside the box. Alen Jujic (St. Louis, Mo./Afton) also tallied an assist on the play. UMSL nearly held out Southern Indiana, only allowing them to score in the final two minutes of the game.

The Rivermen now have a season record of 7-9-2 and finish the conference season with a record of 3-6-1. UMSL will finish their season on the road at Rockhurst on Wednesday, October 27.
