UMSL Lose in Overtime to Saint Joseph's

Kraig Tenge Records Only Goal in 2-1 Double-Overtime Loss

St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team took the pitch against conference opponent Saint Joseph’s College Pumas. The Rivermen lost the game in double overtime, 2-1. Kraig Tenge (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood Central) tied the games late in the second half for the Rivermen.

The first half of the game ended with a draw, neither team was allowed a goal. The Rivermen controlled the half with 14 shots, six on goal, in the first 45 minutes. UMSL only allowed the Pumas one shot during the half.

Twenty-eight minutes into the second half, the Pumas scored on a penalty kick, taking a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Tenge tied the game, blasting the ball by the by Saint Joseph’s goalie inside the box, off a pass from Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary). Neither team was able to score during the remaining minutes of regulation. At the start of overtime the score was tied 1-1.

The first overtime resulted in now goals, pushing the game into a second overtime period. Within the first two minutes of the second overtime period, Saint Joseph’s ended the game, putting the ball past the UMSL goalie. The final score was Pumas 2, Rivermen 1.

The Rivermen’s next game will be Tuesday, October 12, at 7:00 pm against non-conference opponent McKendree College. The UM-St. Louis men’s soccer team is now 6-7-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
