UMSL, Truman State Finish in 1-1 Deadlock Top Ranked Regional Teams End in a Draw St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team fought to a 1-1 tie with Truman State University on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup. Both teams entered the game ranked in the top eight in the Great Lakes Region, with Truman ranked seventh and UMSL ranked eighth. Truman State got the first goal of the game in the second half, and UMSL came back and got a goal from Timmy Sellers (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) to tie the game at 1-1. In the first half, neither team could find the net as both fought to maintain control of the game. The Bulldogs had the best opportunities with three shots on goal, but UMSL goalkeeper Adam Balbi (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt South) made saves on all three shots to keep it deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime. Truman State then got on the board in the second half. Josh Weir had a shot on goal that was deflected by UMSL’s keeper, and Geoff Brengle took the rebound and shot it into the open net for a 1-0 Truman State lead in the 55th minute. The Rivermen would come back to tie the game in the 73rd minute. Matt Anderson (St. Louis, Mo./Northwest) took the ball down the middle and sent a pass through two defenders on the right side where Timmy Sellers took the pass and shot it just inside the far post to make it a 1-1 game. Both teams then battled through the two, ten-minute overtime periods with neither team being able to find the net. Goalkeeper Adam Balbi finished the game with six saves on the night for the Rivermen. UMSL is now 6-3-2 on the season and will
be on the road this weekend when they travel to play conference games
at Indianapolis on Friday, October 1, and at Northern Kentucky on Sunday,
October 3.
