Second Half Explosion Propels Rivermen

UMSL Gets Three Second Half Goals for a 3-1 Win

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team waited until the second half before putting on a show, scoring three goals in the final 30 minutes of the game for a 3-1 victory over visiting Missouri-Rolla. Jeff Facchin (Hazelwood, Mo./DeSmet) scored the first UMSL goal to tie the game before Adam Bimslager (Florissant, Mo./St. Thomas Aquinas) got the game-winning goal. Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) scored an insurance goal with four minutes left to help secure the win.

Missouri-Rolla got the first goal of the game in the opening seven minutes on a goal from Justin Lightner, giving the Miners a 1-0 lead that held up to halftime. Midway through the second half, the Rivermen struck back to tie the game. Alen Jujic (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) made a move in the middle and had his shot deflected out of bounds by the Miners goalkeeper. On the ensuing corner kick, Jujic sent it to the box where Jeff Facchin deflected the ball to the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game. UMSL then took the lead with a little over 20 minutes remaining as Adam Bimslager dribbled across the middle of the field and took a shot from just outside the box that made it over the keeper and into the net for a 2-1 UMSL lead. The Rivermen then added an insurance goal with four minutes remaining as Jeff Menke scored on a break away off a crossing pass from Facchin for the 3-1 UMSL victory.

UMSL is now 2-3 on the season and will be in action again next week when the Rivermen will travel to play at Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday, September 14.
