Bearcats Claw Past Rivermen

UMSL Falls 2-0 in Final Home Game

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team dropped their final home game of the season, falling 2-0 to McKendree on Monday night.

The first half was a scoreless battle in the early going before McKendree mounted an attack. The Bearcats had the ball coming down the left side when Santiago Duran took a pass in the middle of the box and scored on a bicycle kick in the 30th minute to give the Bearcats the 1-0 advantage at halftime. McKendree would add a goal in the second half, increasing their lead in the 73rd minute. Ian Nichols scored the goal when UMSL goalkeeper Zach Hoette (Florissant, Mo./Rosary) came off the net to deflect a pass, but McKendree maintained control of the ball and found Nichols for the goal. UMSL had a couple of close chances late in the second half to get on the board, but the two best shots late in the game, by Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) and Adam Bimslager (Florissant, Mo./St. Thomas Aquinas), were both saved by the McKendree goalkeeper, who recorded six saves on the night.

UMSL falls to 7-10-2 on the season with the loss. The Rivermen will wrap up their season on Wednesday when they travel to play at Rockhurst at 6 pm.
