UMSL Soccer Falls in Season Opener Rivermen Lose 2-1 to San Francisco State St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team started the season in the state of California, and fell 2-1 to San Francisco State. David Walters (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour) scored the games first goal for the Rivermen, scoring off a deflection from a missed shot to give UMSL a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. San Francisco State then rallied in the second half, scoring in the opening ten minutes of the half to tie the game and took the lead in the 71st minute for the win. UMSL
was outshot in the game 21-7, as goalkeeper Zach Hoette
(Florissant, Mo./Rosary) recorded nine saves in the game
to keep the Rivermen in contention. UMSL is 0-1 on the new season and
will play again on Sunday, August 29, at Sonoma State before returning
home to play at St. Louis University on Wednesday, September 1.
