UMSL Falls to Northern Kentucky

Rivermen Get Goal from Jonathan Market in 3-1 Loss

Highland Heights, Ky. – After going eight straight games without a loss, the UMSL men’s soccer team suffered their second straight defeat, falling 3-1 at Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon.

Northern Kentucky took control of the game late in the first half, scoring twice in the final 15 minutes. The first goal came in the 31st minute by Chris Thompson, who then added his second goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the half as NKU led 2-0 at halftime. The Norse then got a goal in the 72nd minute for a 3-1 lead. The Rivermen avoided the shutout in the 83rd minute as Jonathan Market (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame) his second goal of the year for the 3-1 final score.

UMSL falls to 6-5-2 on the season, and suffers their second conference loss and now stand at 2-2-1 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will be at home next weekend to host Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, October 8, at 5 pm, and then host Saint Joseph’s on Sunday, October 10, at 12 noon.
