UMSL Falls 1-0 to 3rd-Ranked Bulldogs

Rivermen Defeated by Truman State on Penalty Kick

Kirksville, Mo. – The UMSL men’s soccer team gave third-ranked Truman State all they could handle on Wednesday, battling the Bulldogs to the end before losing 1-0 in a nonconference game.

Neither team could find the net in the first half, despite plenty of chances for the Bulldogs. Truman State had 21 shots in the first half, but failed to score while UMSL could manager just two shots in the opening half. For the game, Truman outshot UMSL 34-6, but the Rivermen were kept in the game by goalkeeper Campbell McLaurin (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep), who recorded a 14 saves in the game. The only goal of the game came early in the second half when Truman State got a penalty kick goal from Martin Clayes for a 1-0 win.

UMSL falls to 6-11-1 on the season with the loss, and lost by one goal to a nationally ranked team for the second consecutive game. The Rivermen will wrap up the regular season this weekend when the team travels to play at Southern Indiana on Saturday.
