UMSL Shutouts Saint Joseph's

Rivermen Notch 3-0 Win Friday; Fall to Rangers on Sunday

The UMSL men's soccer team had to wait an extra day to get their first conference win, but it was worth the wait as the Rivermen notched a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's.

After Friday's game was postponed due to heavy thunderstorms, the two teams met at 8:30 am Saturday morning to square off. UMSL got on the board quickly as Jeff Menke (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) scored in the opening minute of the game for an early 1-0 UMSL lead. The Rivermen would hold that lead into the second half when Adam Bimslager (Florissant, Mo./St. Thomas Aquinas) added to the lead with his first goal of the season. The scoring was capped off in the 85th minute when David Walters (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour) scored the final goal in the 3-0 victory.

On Sunday, it was a reversal of fortunes for the Rivermen as UMSL fell 5-0 to Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers got four goals from Dustin Wagner in the win as UWP outshot UMSL 15-5 in the game.

UMSL is now 3-6 on the season and 1-3 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will be in action at home this weekend when they host Northern Kentucky on Friday night at 7 pm, and then host Indianapolis on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
