Rivermen Edge Out Norse

UM-St. Louis defeat NKU 2-1 in final minutes

St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis Rivermen took the pitch tonight against the Northern Kentucky University Norse.

With the field in distress from the women’s game, the Rivermen were looking for an important win over the Norse. The Norse would take control early, but were unable to capitalize. UM-St. Louis took control and were able to put one away at 22:33. Sophomore, Alen Jujic (St. Louis, Mo./Afton) put a one-timer by the Norse goalie with an assist from junior Dave Seckman (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton). The lead would not last long, however, as NKU would strike back to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams came out ready to take the lead at the start of the second half. The half was looking even until the last two minutes. UM-St. Louis was able to blast one into the net off a free kick. Sophomore Scott Wittenborn (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Notre Dame) was credited with the goal while sophomore teammates Jeff Facchin (Hazelwood, Mo./DeSmet) and Jujic tallied the assist.

The UM-St. Louis Rivermen will be back in action Sunday, October 5, 2003, on their home field, when they take on Indianapolis at 2:30pm.
