| UMSL's King Named GLVC Coach of the Year Stegman, Shelton Receive All-Conference Honors as Well ST. LOUIS, MO – UMSL's Dan King was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year at the league awards banquet tonight, as voted on by conference coaches. King is in his second season at UMSL and led the team to a second-place finish in the GLVC this year, marking the highest ever finish for UMSL in the GLVC since joining the conference seven years ago. This year's team finished with a 7-2-1 record in conference play after finishing with just one conference win and a 10th place finish last year. King, who played at Indiana University for head coach Jerry Yeagley from 1981-84, becomes just the second UMSL coach to earn Coach of Year honors in the GLVC. In addition, the Rivermen had two players receive all-conference honors. Senior Jeff Stegman (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) was named a first-team all-conference selection after leading the Rivermen in scoring this year. Stegman recorded a team-best 10 goals on the year and added four assists for 24 points, also a team-best. Senior Pat Shelton (St. Ann, Mo./St. Thomas Aquinas) was also honored, being named to the all-conference second team as a defender. He was a mainstay for most of the season for the Rivermen defense, helping hold opponents to 1.60 goals per game. Shelton was a leader on the field for a young team much of the year before suffering a season-ending broken leg against Lewis.
