Thomas Finishes Second at the Quincy Invitational

Quincy, Ill. – UMSL gofler Matt Thomas finished in second place at the Quincy Hawks Fall Invitational, shooting a two-round score of 144 (72-72). The Rivermen finished 5th as a team in their second in their second tournament of the season.

Thomas shot two rounds of 1-over par 72 each day for his best career finish at UMSL. Luigi Wewege placed 20th after shooting 151 (79-72), and improved by seven strokes in the second round. His 72 in the second round is his best round in his two years at UMSL. Tim Swoboda shot 153 (76-77) to finish tied for 24th, Ran Miller shot 160 (80-80) to finish 34th, and Marcus Deckert placed 40th with a score of 166 (76-90). Deckert's 76 in the first round was his career best score for the Rivermen.

As a team, UMSL finished in fifth place, shooting a two-round score of 604 (303-301). The team and individual scores were lower than the scores from the first tournament of the year, with the team shooting over 20 strokes better in each round. The 301 in the second round was equal to the second lowest score by the team last year and was just seven strokes off the best team score all of last season.
