Matt Thomas Has Top Ten Finish in First Spring Tournament

Springfield, Mo. – UMSL golfer Matt Thomas got off to a good start in the spring season with an 8th-place finish at the Drury Battle at the Creek Golf Tournament this past weekend. The Rivermen finished in eighth-place as a team in the 12-team field.

Thomas opened the tournament with a tournament low round of 2-under par 69 in Saturday's first round. It also marked a career low round for Thomas and the team's lowest round this year. He finished the second round with a 79 for a two-round score of 148 and an eighth-place finish individually. Luigi Wewege shot a 156 (80-76)for the tournament to place 29th and Tim Swoboda shot a 158 (74-84) to finish in 32nd place on the weekend. Ryan Miller placed 47th after shooting a 161 (80-81) and Diego Jimenez shot a 164 (77-86) to finish in 49th place.

As a team, UMSL finished in eighth place, shooting a 300 team score in the first round and a 320 in the season round. UMSL was just three strokes behind 7th place SIU Edwardsville and was within 11 strokes of the fourth-place team.
