UMSL Men's Golf 10th at NCAA Regional Qualifier

Strong First Round Helps Rivermen

Coldwater, Mich.– The UMSL men's golf team had a strong opening round at the NCAA Regional Qualifier this past weekend and finished 10th in the 21-team field.

UMSL shot a 313 in the opening round, which tied the Rivermen with four other teams for fifth place after the first day and just 10 strokes out of second place. The second day was a different story for all teams, as only five of the 21 teams shot a better team score in the second round. The Rivermen shot a 327 for a tournament score of 640 and a 10th-place finish as eight strokes seperated the fifth through tenth place teams.

Diego Jiminez led UMSL with a 159 (82-77), finishing in 33rd out of a field of 105 individuals. Mark Rieke finished 43rd, just one stroke back at 160 (76-84), and Sam Wiles shot 161 (78-83) to finish in 48th. Drew Stephens was 62nd with a 164 (77-87) and Pat Murillo shot a 169 (86-83) for an 82nd place finish.
