| Men's Golf Wins First Tournament Mark Rieke Wins Individual Medalist Honors Quincy, Ill. – The UMSL men's golf team got the season started off on a high note, winning The Pepsi Shootout at Westview Golf Course in Quincy, Ill. The Rivermen notched a decisive 10-stroke victory with a two-round team score of 580. In addition, Mark Rieke placed first individually in a playoff with Brandon Fry of Lindenwood after each finished with a two-round score of 141. UMSL opened with a 289 in the first round of the tournament and led Quincy by one stroke after the first day. The second day saw the Rivermen shoot a 291 to pull away from the field for the ten stroke win. Mark Rieke shot a 73 in the first round and followed that with a 3-under par 68 in the second round, equaling the scores of Lindenwood's Brandon Fry to tie for first place with identical 141 scores. Rieke then won in a playoff against Fry to take individual medalist honors. Rieke wasn't the only golfer to play well for UMSL as two other Rivermen golfers placed in the top five. Kyle Szcesniak (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) placed third overall with a 144. Szcesniak led all players after the first round with a 2-under par 69 on the first day and then shot a 75 in the second round. Sam Wiles was the third UMSL golfer in the top five, placing fifth with a two-round score of 145, shooting a 72 and a 73. Scott Kirchoff (Silex, Mo./Troy Buchanan) shot identical scores of 75-75 to finish in 13th with a score of 150 and Pat Murillo (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic High) shot 76-75, finishing in 15th with a score of 151. No other team in the tournament had their fourth player finish higher that Murillo, UMSL's fifth player. The Rivermen will be in action again this coming weekend at the Northern Kentucky Tournament, played at Lassing Pointe Country Club in Highland Heights, Ky.
