UMSL Golf 5th at NKU Invitational

Kyle Szcesniak Places 5th Individually

Highland Heights, Ky. – The UMSL men's golf team placed fifth at the Northern Kentucky Fall Golf Invitational. The Rivermen finished with a team score of 623 in the two-round tournament, and was just four strokes behind fourth-place Indianapolis. Northern Kentucky was the overall winner with a team score of 602.

UMSL got out of the gate quickly by shooting a 304 in the first round and stood in third place, just two strokes off the lead. The Rivermen then stumbled to a 319 in the second round and fell to a fifth-place finish. Kyle Szcesniak (St. Louis, Mo./Rosary) led the Rivermen with a fifth-place finish individually. Szcesniak shot a 149 (76-73) for the tournament for an overall 7-over par.

Scott Kirchoff (Silex, Mo./Troy Buchanan) finished in a tie for 12th, shooting a 153 (74-79). Sam Wiles shot a 160 (77-83) for a tie for 28th-place, Pat Murillo (Pensavola, Fla./Pensavola Catholic High) shot a 164 (77-87) for a 35th-place finish, and Mark Rieke shot a 166 (82-84) for a 36th-place finish.

The Rivermen will be in action again this weekend at the NCAA Regional Qualifier in Coldwater, Mich.
