Second Half Drought Leads to UMSL Loss

St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team lost to Saint Joseph's College on Saturday, falling 80-67 to the Pumas.

After trailing 9-6 in the opening minutes, UMSL scored eight straight points to take a six-point lead at 14-9. The Rivermen got buckets from four different players during that run and held a six-point lead at 17-11 after a three pointer by Cody Kliethermes. Saint Joseph's would come back with six straight points to take the lead, and the teams went back and forth the rest of the half until UMSL got a late field goal from David Ward to take a 31-30 lead going into halftime.

The Pumas came out in the second half and score the first six points and would push their lead out to 12 points at 59-47 with just over ten minutes left in the game. UMSL would then go on an 8-0 run, capped off by a three pointer from Troy Slaten that pulled UMSL within four points at 59-55 with just under eight minutes remaining. Saint Joseph's then held UMSL scoreless over the next five minutes and went on a 13-0 run to take control of the game and went on from there for the 80-67 win.

UMSL was led by Troy Slaten with 13 points and Brett Ledbetter had 12 points. Ty Adams had 10 points off the bench and pulled down five rebounds.

The Rivermen fall to 9-14 on the season and 4-11 in the GLVC. UMSL will be at home next week when they host Drury on Thursday, February 15, at 7:30 pm.
