Griffin Earns Academic All-District Honors Senior Adds to Accolades with ESPN the Magazine Academic Honors St. Louis, Mo. – University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball player Jonathan Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./Normandy) has added to his list of accolades during his career, as he was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team. In doing so, he becomes the first UMSL student-athlete to receive recognition for this national academic honor since the fall semester of 2003. Griffin is currently leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He also has team highs with 81 assists, 41 steals and 14 blocked shots. Griffin has scored 20 or more points in a game nine times this season and has 20 or more points in 30 games in his four-year career. This season, Griffin has climbed many of the UMSL career stats lists. He currently ranks third in career scoring and needs just 39 more points to move into second place on that list. He is third in career steals, seventh in career assists and ninth in career rebounds. Griffin is just the second player in UMSL history to rank in the top ten in career points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots. Griffin was a second team GLVC All-Conference
selection last year, becoming the first UMSL men’s basketball
player to earn that honor since joining the league in 1996-97. Griffin
has been a three-time selection to the GLVC Academic All-Conference
team. In the 2002-03 season, he was one of 27 student-athletes nationally
named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar as a third-team selection, and
was one of just five Division II student-athletes to receive this honor.
