UMSL Falls at Wisconsin-Parkside

Rivermen Led by Jonathan Griffin with 16 Points

Kenosha, Wis.– The Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team lost 88-77 at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon. Jonathan Griffin led the Rivermen with 16 points in the loss.

UMSL tied the game at 8-8 in the opening minutes after a bucket from David Ward (Maryland Heights, Mo./DeSmet), but the Rangers responded with eight straight points to lead 16-8. UMSL would cut that deficit back down to four points after a layup by Derrell Minner (New Madrid, Mo./New Madrid Central) made it 23-19 with ten minutes left in the half. The Rangers responded again with a 10-2 run opened up a 13-point lead at 52-39 going into halftime. In the second half, UMSL got as close as seven points with just under ten minutes left in the game after a jumper by Aaron Jackson (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) made it 69-62. Wisconsin-Parkside would repsond again and push the lead up to as many as 19 points before settling for the 88-77 win.

UMSL was led by Jonathan Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./Normandy) with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. Aaron Jackson had 14 points and Troy Slaten (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette) added 13 points.

The Rivermen fall to 8-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL will be at home next week when they host Northern Kentucky on Thursday night at 7:30 pm, and then host Bellarmine on Saturday at 1 pm.
