UMSL Ends Season at Southern Indiana

Rivermen Fall to Screaming Eagles to Wrap up Season

Evansville, Ind. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team ended their season with an 80-52 loss at Southern Indiana on Saturday. The Rivermen end the year with a 14-13 record on the season, their first winning season since 2000-01.

UMSL stayed close in the opening minutes, getting a three pointer from Joey Paul (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) to tie the game at 5-5, and trailed by just three points after a three pointer from Sherome Cole (Sikeston, Mo./Sikeston) with 12:24 left in the half. USI answered with eight straight points to push their lead to 11 points and led by 17 points going into halftime. UMSL came out and scored six of the first eight points in the second half to make it 42-29, but the rest was all Screaming Eagles as they went on to win 80-52.

UMSL was led in scoring by Jonathan Griffin with 13 points and six rebounds. Joey Paul, David Ward (Maryland Heights, Mo./DeSmet), Derrell Minner (New Madrid, Mo./New Madrid Central) and Paul DeChellis (Melbourne, Australia) each had six points and DeChellis added six rebounds as well.

The Rivermen end the season with an overall record of 14-13 and a GLVC record of 7-12. UMSL finishes with a winning record for the first time since the 2000-01 season when they also finished at 14-13.
