Griffin Scores 1,000th Career Point in UMSL Win Griffin Records 31 points, 12 Assists in UMSL Victory Jefferson City, Mo. – UMSL’s Jonathan Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./Normandy) had a career night, nearly missing a triple double while surpassing the 1,000 career point mark to lead UMSL to a 101-91 victory at Lincoln. Griffin scored 31 points in the game, including 11 points in the first half to become the 15th player in UMSL history to hit the 1,000 career point mark, and then added 20 more points in the second half to carry UMSL to the win. Griffin also set a career high with 12 assists, one shy of the school record set by Bob Bone in the 1974-75 season. He also pulled down eight rebounds to narrowly miss the triple double. The Rivermen hit 59% (32-of-54) from the field in the game, including 10 three pointers in the win. UMSL had four other players score in double figures on the night as Joey Paul (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) had 16 points and Aaron Green (St. Louis, Mo./Riverview Gardens) added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. David Ward (Maryland Heights, Mo./DeSmet) scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Chris Mroz (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) scored 14 points off the bench. The Rivermen improve to 6-11 on the season with the win, and UMSL scored over 100 points for the first time this season, and the first time since the second game of the season last year. UMSL will be at home next week when they host Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, January 27, at 7:30 pm, and then host Bellarmine on Saturday, January 29, at 3 pm.
