UMSL Wins in Blowout Rivermen Win 108-35 over St. Louis Christian College St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team ran away with their home opener on Monday evening, winning 108-35 over St. Louis Christian College. In the process, UMSL set two school records in the game. The Rivermen shot 68.9% (42-for-61) from the field and also set a record for largest margin of victory with a 73-point win. The Rivermen took off early, scoring the first 12 points of the game in the opening two and a half minutes and it was over from there. UMSL increased the lead up to 27 points with six minutes remaining in the half and then closed the half with a 17-3 run and led 59-23 at the break. The second half was more of the same, in smaller doses, as UMSL outscored SLCC 49-12 in the second half, shooting 75.0% in the second half. UMSL was led by Ronnie Banks (Birmingham, Ala./Phillips) and Kevin Nordmann (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) with 19 points each. Jonathan Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./Normandy) added 17 points, six rebounds and a team-high eight assists on the night. The Rivermen shot a school record 68.9% (42-for-61) from the field and hit 14-of-24 (.583) from three-point range. UMSL dished out 32 total assists in the game, which tied for the second highest total in a game in school history, and also had 22 total steals, just one shy of the school record for most in a game. The 108 points was the 57th time in school history that the team reached the 100-point mark, and the first time since the 1997-98 season. The
Rivermen are now 1-1 on the season and will be home again this weekend
when they host St. Mary’s (TX) on Saturday at 3:15 pm.
