| UMSL Ends Season With Loss to Southern Indiana Rivermen Finish Season With 90-75 Loss St. Louis, Mo. – The UMSL men’s basketball team saw their 2002-03 season come to an end with a 90-75 loss to visiting Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon. The Rivermen finish the season with a 5-22 record overall and 2-18 in the GLVC. The game was even in the opening ten minutes of play. UMSL would grab their first lead of the game at 9-8 on a three pointer by Ronnie Banks at the 15:26 mark. Southern Indiana would respond with a bucked by Alan Goff to retake the lead before the Rivermen came back again and tied it at 13-13 after a pair of Banks free throws. The Screaming Eagles then exploded with a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game, leading 27-13 with just under eight minutes left in the half. USI would push their lead out to as many as 20 points at 36-16 before UMSL cut it down to 14 points at halftime after a three pointer by Mindaugas Adamonis at the buzzer made it 42-28 at the break. It was an even second half, as USI outscored UMSL 48-47 in the second stanza, but the first half deficit was too much for the Rivermen to overcome. Early in the half, Qwanzi Samuels brought UMSL to within 11 points after a fast break dunk made it 52-41 with just over 14 minutes to play. The Rivermen would cut the deficit to 11 again at the 10:28 mark after a three-point play by Jo’Van Fisher made it 64-53, but that was as close as UMSL could get the rest of the game. USI would expand their lead to as many as 20 points on two occasions before holding on for the 90-75 win. UMSL
was led by Sherome Cole with a career-high 15 points in the game. Qwanzi
Samuels added 14 pointso n 6-of-10 shooting from the field and Jonathan
Griffin scored 13 points off the bench. Southern Indiana had six players
score in double figures, led by Billy Harris with 19 points and seven
rebounds. With the loss, the Rivermen season comes to an end and UMSL
finishes with a 5-22 record overall and 2-8 in the GLVC.
