| UMSL Swept by Saint Joseph's in Doubleheader Sauget, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Saint Joseph’s College on Sunday, falling 17-6 in the first game and fell 11-5 in the second game. In the first game, UMSL got the quick lead with a run in the first inning, but the Pumas scored five in the third to take the lead. UMSL would cut into that deficit with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Bryan Smith drew a bases loaded walk to plate one run and in the fifth Ryan Davis hit an RBI single to score Adam Whitehead to make it a 5-4 game. Saint Joseph’s would answer in the sixth by scoring five runs to open up the lead and added seven more in the seventh inning before UMSL closed with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 17-6 loss. UMSL got on the board in the first inning as Steve Porter scored on a double steal for a 1-0 lead. The Rivermen added to that lead in the second with two more runs. Nico Gragali scored on a fielding error and Mark Sanders scored on another double steal as UMSL led 3-0. The Pumas took the lead with four runs in the third inning and added to that with four more in the fourth. UMSL got a single run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Pumas got two more in the fifth for a 10-4 lead. UMSL would add another run in the seventh and Saint Joseph’s added on in the eighth for the 11-5 win. UMSL
is now 15-14 on the season and 11-11 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will
be in action again on Tuesday, April 17, when they host Southern Indiana
for a doubleheader that will be played at Gordon Moore Park in Alton,
Ill.
