| UMSL Sweeps Doubleheader from Kentucky Wesleyan Edwardsville, Ill. – The UMSL baseball team saw the bats come alive in a doubleheader sweep against Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, winning 7-1 and 7-6 as UMSL combined for 25 hits in the two games. In the first game, UMSL got an RBI double from Dan Fox in the first inning for a quick 1-0 lead and added a run with an RBI single from Fox in the third inning. UMSL blew it open in the fourth, scoring four runs and getting RBI hits from Nico Gregali, Steve Porter and Adam Whitehead to grab a 7-0 lead. The Panthers would get on the board with a run in the seventh as UMSL cruised for the 1-0 win. Matt Tesson pitched the complete game, going 9.0 innings, giving up one run on six hits and struck out five for the win. UMSL got a quick lead again in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning on a two-run double by Dan Fox. KWC got a run in the second but UMSL responded with an RBI single by Matt Tesson in the third inning to lead 3-1. After the Panthers again scored a run in the fourth, the Rivermen got four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Steve Porter, Eric Kuntz and Dan Fox all had RBI singles in the inning for UMSL. Kentucky Wesleyan made a late inning rally, scoring four times in the final inning before a double play by UMSL ended the game for the 7-6 win. UMSL improves to 18-19 overall on the season and is now 14-15 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will host Bellarmine for a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 noon, with games being played in Alton, Ill., at Gordon Moore Park. The teams will then play a single game on Sunday at 12 noon at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
