UMSL Drops Doubleheader at Southern Indiana

Evansville, Ind. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost two games at Southern Indiana on Thursday, falling 8-5 in a conference game and losing 8-0 in a non-conference matchup.

In the first game, which was a conference game, USI had a big eighth inning, scoring five runs to beat UMSL 8-5. Each team scored a run in the first inning, UMSL's coming on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Davis. Both teams again got a single run in the third inning as Ryan Davis hit an RBI single for the Rivermen. USI would take the lead with a run in the fifth, but Davis came through again for UMSL in the seventh with another RBI single to tie it at 3-3. The Screaming Eagles then scored five runs in the eighth inning to take the lead. UMSL tried to rally in the ninth, getting an RBI double by Steve Porter and an RBI single by Dan Fox, but it wasn't enough as UMSL fell 8-5. Ryan Davis went 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBI for UMSL in the loss.

In the second game, USI jumped out quickly with three runs in each of the first two innings. The Screaming Eagles then added two more in the third inning for an 8-0 lead and would go on to win by that score.

The Rivermen are now 15-12 on the season and are 11-9 in the GLVC. UM-St. Louis will be at home this weekend to host Saint Joseph's College. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14, at 12 noon at Roy E. Lee Field on the SIU Edwardsville campus. Sunday the teams will play another doubleheader at 12 noon at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
