UMSL Drops Two to League Leading Drury

Springfield, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a doubleheader to league-leading Drury University on Wednesday, falling 2-1 in extra innings of the opener and lost 10-1 in the night cap.

In the opener, Drury got on the board with a single run in the fourth inning off UMSL starter Mike Lantzy. The Rivermen would tie the game with a run of their own in the sixth. Ryan Ayers led off with a single to left and scored on an RBI single by Eric Kuntz that made it a 1-1 game. It remained tied after seven regulation innings when the Panthers got an RBI single in the eighth for the 2-1 win. In the second game, Drury got on the board quickly, scoring three runs in the first and third innings for a 6-0 lead. The Panthers added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. The lone UMSL run came in the sixth inning when Ryan Davis hit an RBI single to score Steve Porter.

UMSL falls to 11-7 overall on the season and is now 8-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rivermen will be at home this weekend to host Wisconsin-Parkside in a four-game series, beginning with a single game on Friday night at 7 pm.
