UMSL Splits Doubleheader Again Lantzy Pitches Rivermen to Win in Second Game Sauget, Ill. – The Missourit-St. Louis baseball team split a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside, losing the opener 9-5 in extra innings, then came back to win the second game 5-2. Wisconsin-Parkside took the first lead in the opening game with two runs in the top of the second. UMSL came back quickly with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a one-run lead. Zack Sheets brought home the first run with an RBI single and Adam Whitehead had a two-run double for the Rivermen. The Rangers would take the lead in the fourth inning with three runs to lead 5-3 before UMSL used a last inning rally to for extra innings. Josh Morgan scored the first run in the bottom of the seventh, and Bryan Smith tied the game with an RBI double to force extra innings. Both teams were scoreless over the next four innings before the Rangers broke through with four runs in the top of the 12th inning and held on for the 9-5 win. It was the seventh extra inning game of the season for UMSL, and fifth extra inning home game as the Rivermen are now 3-4 in extra inning games this year. UWP again got the quick lead in the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. UMSL would respond quickly, getting three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Scott Lavelock knocked in the first run with an RBI single and Nico Gregalo followed with a suicide squeeze. Bryan Smith then gave UMSL the lead with an RBI single to finish off the first inning. The Rivermen would add two more runs in the second inning, the first scoring on a double steal and the second scoring on an error by the Rangers for a 5-2 UMSL lead. UMSL started Mike Lantzy settled down after the first inning, holding the Rangers scoreless for the final seven innings to pick up his second win of the season. UMSL
is now 15-23 on the season and 14-21 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will
host Rockhurst for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 25, at GMC Stadium
beginning at 5 pm.
