UMSL Swept by Northern Kentucky Norse Silent UMSL Bats St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team was swept by Northern Kentucky in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the UMSL baseball field, losing the opening game 1-0 and falling in the second game 12-4. In the opener, NKU scored a single run in the second inning and the Norse pitching shut down the UMSL offense. The Rivermen managed just five hits in the game, getting two hits from both Matt Tesson (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) and Bryan Smith (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South). Mike Lantzy (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) suffered the tough loss, giving up just one run one four hits and struck out nine hitters. The Norse offense caught fire in the second game, winning 12-4. UMSL got on the scoreboard first as Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's) hit at two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Northern Kentucky took the lead in the fourth inning with four runs and added four more in the fifth. The Norse opened it up even more with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. The Rivermen scored two in the bottom of the eighth before falling 12-4. UMSL is now 4-10 on the season and 3-8 in the GLVC. The Rivermen will host Missouri-Rolla on Tuesday at 5 pm at GMC Stadium in Sauget, Ill.
