Josh Morgan Named GLVC Player of the Year

Senior Also Named First Team All-Conference

St. Louis, Mo. – UMSL senior Josh Morgan was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Year as voted on by league coaches. Morgan was also named a first-team all-conference selection for the second straight season. He becomes the second UMSL player to be named GLVC Player of the Year, following Jim Reiter who earned that honor in the 2003 season.

Morgan led UMSL in hitting on the season with a .344 batting average, and scored a team best 30 runs on the season. He had 42 hits, six doubles, two triples and a team high six home runs on the season while knocking in 18 RBI. Morgan was 18-for-20 in stolen bases on the year, leading the team in that catergory, and led the team with a .574 slugging percentage and a .460 on-base percentage. In conference leaders, Morgan was fourth in batting with the .344 average, second in home runs, ninth in stolen bases, and he led the conference in both slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

Morgan put up impressive pitching numbers for the Rivermen as well, post a 5-3 record to lead the team in wins, and had a team best 1.86 ERA while picking up two saves. In 48.1 innings pitched on the year, he struck out 54 batters while walking just 20.
