UMSL Loses Late Lead in Opener, Swept by SIUE Rivermen Drop Conference Doubleheader St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting SIUE (16-13, 11-11 GLVC) on Thursday afternoon. UMSL (11-13, 6-12 GLVC) lost a late lead in the opener and fell 3-2, and then dropped the second game 11-4 to the Cougars. UMSL got the lead in the first game with single runs in the first and fifth innings. Colby Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) came in for the first run on a fielding error, and in the fifth Hughes got a base hit to leftfield and Adam Whitehead (Festus, Mo./Festus) came in to score on another fielding error by the Cougars. SIUE battled back, getting two runs in the sixth on three doubles to tie the game at 2-2, and added the go ahead run in the seventh on an infield single for the 3-2 win. SIUE jumped out quickly in the second game, scoring six runs in the first inning to take control of the game. UMSL got on the board in the third on an RBI single by Tom Anderson (Bridgeton, Mo./Hazelwood West). SIUE added single runs in the fourth fifth and sixth innings before UMSL scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) had an RBI bases loaded walk, and Tom Anderson had a two-run single in the inning. The Cougars would add two runs of their own in the seventh for the 11-4 win. UMSL is now 11-13 on the season and 6-12
in the GLVC. The Rivermen will be at home this weekend to host Northern
Kentucky in a pair of doubleheaders, playing Saturday at 12 noon and
again on Sunday at 12 noon.
