UMSL Drops Doubleheader to NKU

Rivermen Swept by Northern Kentucky

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-1 in the first game and dropping the second game 7-3.

Northern Kentucky got two quick runs in the top of the first inning of the first game for a 2-0 lead. UMSL cut that lead in half in the second inning on an RBI single by Josh Thomas (Pevely, Mo./Herculaneum) brought home Jonathan Pate (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) to make it 2-1. NKU would add a single run in the fourth to cushion their lead, and then scored four runs in the sixth inning for the 7-1 victory.

The Rivermen would take the first lead in the second game, getting an RBI single from Tom Anderson (Bridgeton, Mo./Hazelwood West) that scored Colby Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) for a 1-0 UMSL lead. Northern Kentucky would tie it with a single run in the second inning and took a 3-1 lead with single runs in the top of the fourth and top of the fifth innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Josh Thomas got a one-out single and Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) blasted a two-run homer to left center that tied the game at 3-3. Northern Kentucky would respond in the eighth, getting a three-run home run to reclaim the lead, and added a run in the ninth for the 7-3 win.

UMSL is now 14-19 on the season and 6-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rivermen will be at home again this week when they host Quincy for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 20 at 12 noon.
