UMSL Drops Two to Northern Kentucky Rivermen Swept in Doubleheader St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis baseball team was swept by Northern Kentucky in a GLVC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. NKU (19-16, 11-7 GLVC) won the first game 8-3, and then beat UMSL (14-16, 6-13 GLVC) in the second game 9-5. In the opener, NKU got two runs in the third and one in the fifth for a quick 3-0 lead. After two more runs in the top of the sixth for the Norse, UMSL got on the board with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s) had an RBI triple and Tom Anderson (Bridgeton, Mo./Hazelwood West) hit a solo homer to left field to make it a 5-3 game. Northern Kentucky then rallied and got three insurance runs in the top of the seventh for the 8-3 win. Northern Kentucky struck quick again in the second game, getting two runs in the first inning. UMSL got one run in the second inning, and after NKU got a single run in the top of the third, UMSL got two runs in the bottom of the third, one coming on an RBI single by Colby Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) that tied the game at 3-3 after three inning. The Norse broke that tie quickly with three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead. Mark Sanders (Creve Coeur, Mo./Parkway North) knocked in a run for the Rivermen in the sixth to cut into the lead. Matt Rose (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) hit a solo home run in the eighth to make it an 8-5 game before NKU added a run in the top of the ninth for the 9-5 win. UMSL falls to 14-17 on the season and 6-14
in the GLVC. The same two teams will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader
beginning at 12 noon.
