UMSL Drops Doubleheader at Bellarmine Rivermen Lose Second Game in Extra Innings Louisville, Ky. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Bellarmine on Saturday, being limited to one hit in a 2-0 loss in the opener, and lost the second game 8-7 in 10 innings. In the opener, UMSL managed just one hit, a single by Adam Whitehead (Festus, Mo./Festus) in the top of the first, and were held scoreless in a 2-0 loss. The second game went extra innings before the Rivermen fell 8-7. UMSL grabbed the first lead of the game with three runs in the first inning, as Colby Hughes (Walnut Shade, Mo./Branson) had an RBI single and Derek Becker (Prunedale, Calif./North Salinas) had a two-run single in the inning. UMSL got a run in the third on another RBI single by Becker for a 4-0 lead before Bellarmine came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2. UMSL then added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Josh Morgan (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's) hit a solo home run in the fourth, and Scott Lavelock (Pleasant Hill, Mo./Pleasant Hill) had an RBI single in the fifth. The Knights scored their own runs during that stretch, getting two runs in the fourth inning, and then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth that tied the game at 7-7. in extra innings, Bellarmine got three straight hits to start the bottom of the tenth, the last an RBI single that gave the Knights an 8-7 win. Missouri-St.
Louis falls to 10-10 on the season and 5-9 in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference. UMSL will play at Bellarmine again on Sunday for another
doubleheader.
